Performing in the gazebo. Marmion Park, The Heights, Houston, TX.
Our story began where a lot of great stories begin: at a bar.
Edgar Jaime (trumpet) and James Lee (trombone) were already busy musicians in town but were looking to create a brass quintet comprised of great friends and players who were fit to share their vision for how the group would sound: passionate, versatile, and with the mantra of, “express first, think later”. A few calls were made that very same late night and almost instantly a new group was formed. Since most of the members were living in Houston’s Heights neighborhood at the time the name “Heights 5 Brass” seemed to fit just right!
Members of the Heights 5 Brass have played concerts with several major symphony orchestras across the nation (including Hawaii!) and have also played in one of the nation’s top military bands in Washington DC having played for multiple presidents. On any given night you will see members of this group playing in musical theater shows, latin bands, jazz bands, and many other groups in addition to being busy music educators in the greater Houston area.
Our ultimate goal is precisely this: we want to have an ensemble that thrives on the maximum expression of each individual as we have all come from different types of backgrounds and upbringings. With this diversity we can meet in a very special place through the result of collaboration and it is our duty to bring our sounds in to the public. This is the beginning and the end of our existence. It is a true honor for us to play for you.
